The VRCA is a proud Partner of the Industry Innovations Symposium. 

On Tuesday, June 9th, 2015, delegates of the 2015 CSCE International Construction Specialty Conference will join members of the local construction industry for the Industry Innovations Symposium to hear industry leaders discuss some of the regions most innovative projects and global experts present emerging trends and technologies in sustainable buildings and infrastructure.  

Talks will be delivered in a TED-style format on a wide range of topics, including BIM/VDC, integrated practices, lean construction, modularization and prefabrication, computational design, and sensing and data capture technologies. 

The session will end with a panel discussion on the importance of collaboration between industry and academia to drive innovation in the construction industry.

The 2015 Construction Industry Innovation Symposium will feature presentations from leaders in industry and academia:

  • Dr. Sheryl Staub-French: Associate Professor, Civil Engineering, UBC and Chair, Industry Innovations Symposium.  Topics: BIM/VDC, design coordination, collaboration, information management and use.
  • Ross A. Gilmour: B.C. Area Manager, Peter Kiewit Infrastructure Company. Topics: Delivering large infrastructure projects in collaborative environments.
  • Dr. Burcu Akinci: Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University. Topics: Smart infrastructure, data sensing and collection technologies, flying robots.
  • Harley Grusko: Associate at Perkins+Will, Architect AIBC, AAA, LEED AP. Topics: BIM, integrated practices, computational design.
  • Dr. Jennifer Whyte: Professor in Innovation and Design, School of Construction Management and Engineering, University of Reading, UK. Topics: Organizational considerations in BIM implementation, BIM deliverables.

  • Dr. Mohamed Al-Hussein: Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Alberta. Topics: BIM, Lean Construction, prefabrication and modular construction, sustainable construction.
  • Dr. Chimay Anumba: Department Head and Professor of Architectural Engineering, Pennsylvania State University. Topics: Sustainable urban renewal, high-performance buildings, knowledge-based systems.
