VRCA Launches Major E-Business Initiative
Electronic Planroom Enhancements Provide Invaluable Tools
Friday, February 06, 2009 --
At a time when construction businesses are tightening their belts around the world, BC’s construction industry is leading the world with innovative new technologies.
On January 28th, the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) and Vancouver based technology company Infinite Source Systems Corp. (ISSC) signed a distribution partnership agreement launching a new initiative that will make the construction industry more efficient, competitive and environmentally responsible.
“We are very excited to be working with Infinite Source Systems to bring these new technologies to the construction industry here in the Lower Mainland of BC,” says Keith Sashaw, President of the VRCA. “This represents a major advance in the ability of the construction industry to use information technology to eliminate costly and time wasting paper based processes. Not only does the industry benefit but there are significant environmental benefits to be realized as well.”
VRCA’s use of ISSC’s PlanSource technology has already saved the production and distribution of in-excess of 500 tons of paper, equivalent to a small forest of almost 4000 trees.
A typical construction project uses several tons of paper from design and construction through to commissioning requiring more than 50 trees to produce it and the equivalent CO2 emissions of one vehicle on the road for an entire year. PlanSource reduces the need for paper by as much as 70 per cent.
ISSC President, Dave Robertson notes, “It is particularly exciting for us to be able to partner with one of the leading construction organizations in the country to bring Document Control technology to the industry. Our mutual objective is to build on the existing successes we’ve had in changing the way the industry manages documents and information”.
The PlanSource technology now available through the VRCA enables online document control and distribution for every phase of a project. In addition to traditional planroom services VRCA will provide the industry with access to Shop Drawing Management, Online Bidding, Online Prequalification processes, Reprographic services and enhanced Project Opportunity information.
Sashaw states, “This is the beginning of a new way of managing construction project information and VRCA is proud to be leading the industry towards more efficient and sustainable practices.”
